I would love to have gotten closer to these mother bears, both of whom had cubs at the time of our June 2007 visit to Yellowstone. However, an instinct for self-preservation kept me at a safe distance. (Several other visitors were mauled during the week we were there.) My 500 lens caught the images you see here... and saved me from a mauling.
